Future of project?

Well, as far as this project goes, I think we should focus on the actual work we get done for the first year or so, but maybe we should bounce around ideas for the future of this- we've talked about this in a roundabout way, so we can see where we stand with this-

I was thinking a good option was your idea of making it a print shop- I think if we have some ideas about educational goals, community involvement, etc it would help alot with grants for equipment. I wouldn't be very interested in a traditional co-op, where members pay 300 bucks a months and are part owners, blah blah blah, i think you just end up with the art fair and old lady types who are nice enough and are basically a subsidizer in the effort, but lend nothing good artistically to the place. I was thinking you could have people who could use the space, but keep the costs very reasonable, so younger people could use them.

I was also thinking of places that print bigger name artists' work- interesting, but not really something i think either of us could do. i was thinking it could be interesting to have some sort of residency thing, that wouldn't necessarily be a printmaker, but that we would look for artists just getting started, not necessarily from the triangle area- but could be started and kept that way. There are a lot of places that say they are looking for young artists but in fact would take an established one more readily if they think it will look good for the residency place.

And, tying it into what we were talking about before- making both ambitious and accessible work that both circumvent the (almost entirely boring) academic scene, also not relying on who may be in grad schools or whatever too.

This of course would be in the future, when we would have a big enough space for this kind of thing, but something that, if we outline it now, we could start applying for grants to acquire things. Could be worth looking up online to see if there are similar things, especially in the area...
